Statement from Rafael Collazo, the Executive Director of the UnidosUS Action Fund, on signing
of Inflation Reduction Act by President Joseph R. Biden

Aug 17, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — “Today’s signing of the Inflation Reduction Act by President Biden is a major victory for American families. For almost two years, the President and Congressional Democrats worked to pass this historic legislation – while every single Congressional Republican voted against it – that lowers health care and prescription costs for families, combat climate change, create jobs, and asks the largest corporations to finally pay their fair share of taxes.”

“Latino voters are clear about the issues they care about and will once again be a critical voting bloc in this year’s midterms. In a recent national poll released by UnidosUS and Mi Familia Vota, inflation, jobs, and healthcare are top issues with Latino voters – with 91% of Latino voters saying that government should make sure that everyone can afford health care.

Additionally, over 65% of these same voters believe that the government and private sector are responsible for combating climate change.”

“Clearly, Latino voters are paying attention to what is happening in Washington and as the second largest group of voting Americans will play a major role in this year’s midterms. The Latino vote will decide the make-up of the U.S. Senate as well as several critical Governor’s races that will have a major impact on access to voting in 2024.”

“While we celebrate today’s signing, we know that work remains to ensure that these gains are not thwarted by a political party that does not believe in providing relief to working families. We applaud the President and Congressional Democrats for delivering on their promise to provide relief to families.”

The UnidosUS Action Fund works to expand the influence and political power of the Latino community through civic engagement and accountability.
